Feedback widget for Shopify themes

If your theme is connected to a GitHub repository, the widget turns a merchant's change requests into pull requests against that theme.

Updated

Before you start

  1. Sign in with GitHub and install the feedback2code GitHub App. Choose the repository that holds the code of the site.
  2. Open the repository in the dashboard, go to Configure and add the domains the widget may run on.
  3. Copy the snippet from Embed Widget. It contains your widget ID.

Add the widget

layout/theme.liquid
    {{ content_for_layout }}

    <script src="https://www.feedback2code.dev/widget/YOUR_WIDGET_ID" async></script>
  </body>
</html>

Replace YOUR_WIDGET_ID with the ID from your dashboard. Add the tag before the closing body tag of layout/theme.liquid so it loads on every storefront page.

What the agent can change

The agent works on the theme repository: Liquid templates, sections, snippets, CSS and JavaScript. Products, collections and settings made in the admin are not part of the repository.

Every change arrives as a pull request. Nothing is merged or deployed until you do it, so your usual review and deployment stay as they are.

Good to know

  • Use Shopify's GitHub integration to connect the theme to a branch. Merging a pull request into that branch updates the theme.
  • Authorize the storefront domain, for example shop.example.com. For a myshopify.com address, authorize your own subdomain only.
  • Consider loading the widget only on a preview or staging theme if customers should not see it.

Test it

  1. Deploy the change and open the site on an authorized domain.
  2. Click the button at the bottom right and send one small, concrete request.
  3. Open your dashboard. The submission starts as coding and turns to awaiting review once the pull request is open.

What a submission contains and how the plans differ is described on the page about the website feedback widget.

Questions and answers

Is this a Shopify app?

No. It is a script tag in your theme. Nothing is installed from the Shopify App Store.

Will customers see the widget?

Everyone who loads a page with the script sees it. To keep it internal, add it to an unpublished theme and share the preview link with the merchant.

Can the agent change products or prices?

No. It only changes files in the theme repository.
